Chapter 28, Problem 15WYL
Summary Introduction
To determine:
The mechanism by which both parasympathetic and sympathetic innervations work on penile function during sexual arousal.
Introduction:
The penis and the scrotum form the external genitalia in males. The process by which semen is expelled from the penis during sexual arousal is called ejaculation. This process takes place by the rhythmic contraction of the smooth muscle in the wall of the urethra.

Students have asked these similar questions
Specifically, how do both parasympathetic andsympathetic innervation work on penile function duringsexual arousal?
What changes take place in females during sexual arousal as the result of increased parasympathetic stimulation?
Sexual arousal results in a generally positive sympathetic response, e.g. increased heart rate, increased breathing rate and depth, etc. How is it, then, that erection can occur if sympathetic activity causes vasoconstriction and prevents blood flow into the vascular spaces of the penis?
