Expert Solution & Answer
Answer to Problem 1E
Correct answer: Researchers studying newborns use habituations, or the decrease in the response to a stimulus that occurs after repeated presentations of the same stimulus, as an indicator of a baby’s interest.
Explanation of Solution
When the infants see a stimulus, they usually pay attention to it and it causes an increase in their heart rate. When the infant see the same stimulus repeatedly, their attention to the same stimulus decreases. This is indicated by a return to slower heart rate. This phenomenon is called habituation.
