“Choanoflagellates” belong to the group of Opisthokonts which are close to the animals like sponges in the evolutionary history. These organisms have a collar shaped cell with flagella and filaments which helps in the ingestion of food and water. There is identity in the surface receptors present on the surface of choanoflagellates and the sponges that aids in cell signaling mechanisms.
