Introduction:
Inside bones, there is a fatty, squishy substance called bone marrow. Hematopoietic stem cells are immature cells found in this bone marrow. When necessary, these stem cells can divide to produce all different kinds of new blood cells. In order to replenish the stem cell population if these cells are killed or injured, a bone marrow transplant may be required.
