27-Year-Old with Normal First Pregnancy
Ms. Rodriguez has had a normal pregnancy so far. During one of her regular visits with her doctor, Ms. Rodriguez asks what blood type her baby will have, given that her husband's blood type is type A and hers is type O. Her doctor explains to Ms. Rodriguez that she would need to know more about the blood type of Mr. Rodriguez's parents.
3. NCLEX-STYLE Mr. Rodriguez's mother has type O blood and his father has type A blood. What does this tell you about Mr. Rodriguez's genotype?
a. He might be either IAIA or IAi since his parents had both alleles.
b. He must be IAi, because his mother was ii.
c. He must be IAIA, because his father was IAIA.
d. The man who Mr. Rodriguez thinks is his biological fathercannot be—the son of type A and type O parents cannot be type A.

- A woman has a daughter. There are three men whom she claims might have been the father of the child. Her blood type is A,her child's is B. She has three candidates for fatherhood. Their blood types are Man#1, B,Man#2, AB, Man#3, O. Based on blood types the mother claims that this proves that Man#1 must be the little girl's father. Is the mother correct? Why or why not?arrow_forwardAbnormal blood pressure during pregnancy,Explain? does is it affect baby ?arrow_forwardA woman with blood type O has a child with blood type O. Her husband, whose blood type is AB is concerned that the child may not be his. Based on what you learned from the inheritance of the ABO blood group system, what conclusions would you make? (Assume that both parents and the child normally produce the H-substance). The husband is right to be concerned because the only possible blood group types expected from both parents are type A or B or O. The husband should not be concerned. Since the child has the exact same blood type of the mother, the child simply inherited the blood type from her mother. The husband is right to be concerned because the only possible blood group types expected from both parents are type A, B, or AB. The husband should not be concerned because he may be a carrier of the O allele. The husband should not be concerned. Since the O allele is dominant, it makes sense that the child should show the O blood type.arrow_forward
- Maria (AA-) and Jason (AB+) Phillips had twins, a boy and a girl. Lily (AO-) and Charles (AO-) Smith had a boy. When Maria received her son’s birth certificate, his blood type was labeled O-. Based on the information provided, what is the best possible explanation for the O- blood type on the birth certificate Maria received? What is the best explanation for the Smith’s son whose blood was labeled AB-?arrow_forwardFrom the following blood types, determine which baby belongs to which parents. Explain your answer using Punnett squares, and or written justification. Rh positive is a simple dominant trait over Rh negative. What are the possible genotypes or genotype for the son? What is the mother’s possible genotype? What is the father’s genotype?arrow_forward
- Two babies in a maternity ward have lost their identity bands, and there is some confusion about their footprint records. Baby #1 is type A blood; #2 is type B blood. If you are one of the mothers and your blood type is O, which one of the following statements applies. Explain your answer. Neither baby could be yours. The type A baby is yours. The type B baby is yours. Either baby could be yours.arrow_forwardLuanne (AA-) and Hank (AB+) Phillips had twins, a boy and a girl. Maya (AO-) and Sam (AO-) Smith had a boy. Someone later claimed that the hospital mixed up the babies. As a hospital administrator, it is your job to make sure that each pair of parents has the correct baby, so you order blood typing to be done on all the parents and all the babies. Here are the results: Finish the chart giving each individual’s probable genotype and possible gametes and determine which baby belongs to which couple.
