Fill-in-the-Blank
In the___________ biome, most of the nutrients are found in the bodies of plants, rather than in the _______. In the____________ biome, there are pronounced seasons, and trees drop their leaves in winter. In the___________ biome, there is too little rain to support trees, but the soil is so rich that most of the biome has been converted to farmland. The___________ biome is characterized by less than 10 inches of rainfall annually. A biome in which grasses are the dominant vegetation and trees are widely spaced, with a hug diversity of large mammals, is the_________. Stunted vegetation grows in the freezing desert biome known as the____________. LO4

What are the flaws ?
A biome is a large-scale community of organisms, primarily defined on land by the dominant plant types that exist in geographic regions of the planet with similar climatic conditions. A tropical rainforest is warm, has year round growth, and a high amount of precipitation. Deserts are very hot during the day, cold at night, and have very little precipitation. Temperate grasslands and forests have seasonal changes in temperature and receive a moderate amount of rain. Tundras are very cold, have extremely short growing seasons, and receive a high amount of precipitation.
The light, temperature, flow regime, and dissolved solids define aquatic biomes. Estuaries are an important biome that connects ground water and surface water.
As you move north of the equator, temperatures decrease and winters get longer. Rainforests are typically found close to the equator in areas of high precipitation. Deserts are typically found 15-30o north or south of the equator in areas of…
The red regions of the map below represent the ________ biome. The location of this biome is primarily driven by ________.
A- Rainforest; the Hadley Cell
B- Desert; the rainshadow effect
C- Desert; the Hadley Cell
D- Grasslands; the rainshadow effect
E- Temperate forest; seasonal temperature ranges
Select the correct terms: The biome characterized by shrubs and nonwoody plants that grow in regions with cool, rainy winters and hot, dry summers is (tundra / chaparral). Another biome with few trees, but in this case dominated by grasses and nonwoody plants, is (grassland / tundra). The most productive aquatic biome is (freshwater / estuaries).
