Blood-brain barrier (BBB) is made up membrane lipids. Substances soluble in the membrane lipids readily breach the BBB.
The potencies of heroin and morphine as an analgesic is depending upon the breaching of Blood-brain barrier (BBB), so that they can effectively stimulate the enzymes in inside the brain cell.
Non-polar compounds are very soluble in lipids.
