In a recent study, employers consider writing and oral communication among the top five attributes in job seekers due to the importance of these two skills in the modern dynamic digitalized world. There are many recent trends in business and technology leading workers to write more than ever. They include:

  • Social media platforms- they are playing a prominent role in businesses nowadays such as Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and many other platforms. Thanks to modern technology, messages travel easily to distant individuals and group, these platforms has enabled workers to collaborate with other colleagues and network. Work team members can coordinate and collaborate with individuals in different locations and vast distances. Further, these platforms are utilized to market business products and connect with a wide range of customers and increase product awareness.
  • Diverse workforce- effective writing and oral communication plays an important role in communicating and networking with individuals from various backgrounds and cultures, workers have to identify the style of writing or communication to approach a range of different individuals that is by adopting and including positive and courteous expressions and applying bias-free language in messages or reports.
  • Globalization- this is a major change towards worldwide markets not just limited to local boundaries, this requires workers to write more than ever, due to the development of new markets, diverse target segment and innovative products that requires workers to understand the major trends and changes to build on different strategies to communicate effectively with members of the organization, this requires effective writing skills to make the messages clear and concise with high levels of clarity and tone.
