Question
Chapter 3, Problem 1CT
Summary Introduction
To predict: The salinity of the Adriatic Sea.
Introduction: The amount of dissolved salts (sodium and chlorine) in sea water is called ocean salinity (saltiness). It is usually measured in practical salinity unit (PSU).
Expert Solution & Answer
Explanation of Solution
In abnormal cold winters, the Black Sea may sometimes freeze whereas the Adriatic Sea does not freeze. The Black Sea has a low salinity of about 18 psu. The Adriatic Sea has salinity much greater than Black Sea. It usually varies between 38–39 psu in the south to 33–25 psu in the north.
