Win the Prize. In a carnival booth, you can win a stuffed giraffe if you toss a quarter into a small dish. The dish is on a shelf above the point where the quarter leaves your hand and is a horizontal distance of 2.1 m from this point (Fig. E3.19). It you toss the coin with a velocity of 6.4 m/s at an angle of 60° above the horizontal, the coin will land in the dish. Ignore air resistance.

- A brick is thrown upward from the top of a building at an angle of 15° to the horizontal and with an initial speed of 13 m/s. If the brick is in flight for 3.4 s, how tall is the building? =_____ m The best leaper in the animal kingdom is the puma, which can jump to a height of 13.1 ft when leaving the ground at an angle of 40°. With what speed, in SI units, must the animal leave the ground to reach that height? = ______ m/sarrow_forwardConsider a projectile launched form ground level at an angle of elevation with an initial velocity . The maximum horizontal range is given by xmax=(v 2/0 sin2θ)/g, where g is the acceleration due to gravity. Here is the problem: If a soccer ball is kicked from ground level with an initial velocity of 28 m/sec, what is the smallest positive angle at which the player should kick the ball to reach a teammate 48m down the field? Assume that the ball reaches the teammate at ground level on the fly. Round to the nearest tenth of a degree.arrow_forwardA projectile is launched from ground level at an angle of 65 degrees above the horizontal, over flat ground. It reaches a maximum height of 400 meters above the ground and then falls back down. What is the distance between the projectile's starting point and the point where it lands?arrow_forward
- A squirrel is launched due west from a height of 10 meters with an initial velocity of 80 meters per second atan angle of 60 degrees above horizontal. A strong wind blowing directly out of the north causes the squirrel toaccelerate south at a rate of 2 m/s^2. All of this takes place in my backyard where acceleration due to gravity is 7 m/s2 (a) With the positive y–axis oriented north, the positive x–axis oriented east, and the positive z–axis up into the sky, findthe vector equation for the path of the squirrel. (b) Find the time when the squirrel is at her maximum height.arrow_forwardCuban tree frogs are skilled jumpers. They can launch themselves at 4.5 meters per second at an angle of 26o above horizontal. Assuming the frog is jumping on level ground, what is the maximum height above the ground that the frog will achieve? 0.95 m 1.2 m 0.20 m 0.61 marrow_forwardIn the figure, a ball is launched with a velocity of magnitude 7.00 m/s, at an angle of 41.0° to the horizontal. The launch point is at the base of a ramp of horizontal length d1 = 6.00 m and height d2 = 3.60 m. A plateau is located at the top of the ramp. Does the ball land on the ramp or the plateau? When it lands, what are the magnitude and angle of its displacement from the launch point?arrow_forward
- In the figure, a ball is launched with a velocity of magnitude 6.00 m/s, at an angle of 44.0° to the horizontal. The launch point is at the base of a ramp of horizontal length d1 = 6.00 m and height d2 = 3.60 m. A plateau is located at the top of the ramp. (a) Does the ball land on the ramp or the plateau? When it lands, what are the (b) magnitude and (c) angle of its displacement from the launch point?arrow_forward*Draw a simple diagram representation for the solution. In a game war, one team sets base on a cliff 15m high and 60m away from the opponent’s base. At what velocity must the attack be launched so that the lower base will be hit? The initial launch is at 20 degrees below the horizontal?arrow_forwardFrom the window of a building, a ball is tossed from a height y0 above the ground with an initial velocity of 9.00 m/s and angle of 21.0° below the horizontal. It strikes the ground 4.00 s later. (d) How far horizontally from the base of the building does the ball strike the ground? m(e) Find the height from which the ball was thrown. m(f) How long does it take the ball to reach a point 10.0 m below the level of launching? sarrow_forward
- In a volleyball game held in school, Player A at position X serves the ball from a height of 1.3m from the ground, imparting it with an initial velocity at an angle of 50 degrees from the horizontal, He aimed the all to land at point O, 0.5m short to Player B, thus making an ace, Incidentally the Player B is an expert in mind reading. The instant the server hits the ball, Player B started running from rest with a constant acceleration a. Check whether the ball willclear the 2.42m high net.(answer in meters)b. At what horizontal distance in meters from position Y will Player B intercept the ball, given that he intercepts it at a height of 1.6m?c. What is the acceleration in m/s^2 of Player Barrow_forwardAn inflatable life raft is released from an air plane at 500 m altitude, in level flight, with an air speed of 20 m/s in the horizontal direction. How long before the raft strikes the water? How far from the release point does the raft strike the water?arrow_forwardSuppose that a shot putter can put a shot at the worldclass speed 15.00 m/s and at a height of 2.160 m.What horizontal distance would the shot travel if the launch angle is (a) 45.00° and (b) 42.00°? The answers indicate that the angle of 45°, which maximizes the range of projectile motion, does not maximize the horizontal distance when the launch and landing are at different heights.arrow_forward
