Exercises 33 and 34 refer to the following situation: Jackie, Karla, and Lori are planning to divide the half vegetarian—half meatball foot-long sub sandwich shown in Fig. 3-22 among themselves using the lone- divider method. Jackie likes the meatball and vegetarian parts equally well; Karla is a strict vegetarian and does not eat meat at all; Lori likes the meatball part twice as much as the vegetarian part. (Assume that when the sandwich is cut, the cuts are always made perpendicular to the length of the sandwich. You can describe different shares of the sandwich using the ruler and interval notation—for example,

Four roads join the two cities. The commuter likes to vary the trip as much as posible, so she alwaysleaves and returns by different roads. In how many different ways can she make the round-trip?arrow_forwardFor Exercises 11 and 12, use the drawing provided. If AX=x+3,XB=x and AB=3x7, find xarrow_forward
- Scenario 2: In the bathroom, the homeowners wish to install subway tile around the tub. The tile will be placed above the tub on the three sides that are enclosed. The bathroom has a 9-foot ceiling height and the tub is 60 inches long by 32 inches wide by 19 inches high. The tile the homeowners have selected is 3 inches by 12 inches and is sold by the box. Each box costs $34.99 and contains 22 tiles. The supplier provides free delivery and recommends purchasing a minimum of 10% overage. Question 6: Find the total cost for the tile, including sales tax.arrow_forward3.) Mr. Richards and Mr. Dolge each began improving their yards over the summer by buying bags of soil (fancy dirt) and bags of mulch (bark dust). Since Mr. Dolge has access to a truck, Mr. Richards got a ride and as a result they got their supplies from the same store. Mr. Dolge spent $97 on 3 bags of soil and 14 bags of mulch. Mr. Richards got 14 bags of soil and 7 bags of mulch for $161. They forgot to get a receipt, but just in case they need more supplies, they are wondering how much each bag of soil will cost, and how much each bag of mulch will cost. What should they find these prices to be?arrow_forward5 Two hikers started at the same location. One traveled 2 miles east and then 1 mile north. - 1) A Starbuck's store sells coffee in three sizes: a 12-oz tall, a 16-oz grande, and a 20-oz venti. A tall coffee sells for $1.75, a grande for $1.95 and a venti for $2.25. One morning Ethan served 50 coffees for a total of $98.70. He made the coffee in 80-oz batches and used exactly 10 of the batches during the morning. How many of each size coffee did he sell? But do be ready to discuss methods for solving the system of equations].arrow_forwardA farmer wishers to fence off three identical adjoining rectangular pens, each with 300 square feet of area. Suppose that the outer boundary of the pens requires heavy fence that costs $3 per foot, but the two internal partitions require fence costing $2 per foot. What demensions of x and y will produce the least expensive cost for the pens?arrow_forwardConsider a plate of chocolate, consisting of n squares in a rectangular arrangement. You want to break it into individual squares, and the only operation you'll use is breaking one of the current rectangles (there will be more, once you start breaking) into two pieces.
