Interpretation:

An explanation for the observed corrosion-plate profile in the given distillation column has to be suggested. The effect of column operating conditions have on the corrosion-plate profile has to be given.

Concept introduction:

The destruction of metals or alloys by the surrounding environment (air, moisture…) through chemicla and electrochemical changes is known as corrosion.

The nautre and extent of corrosion (corrosion rate ) depend on the metal and the enviornment. The important factors which may influence the corrosion process are mentioned below,

  1. (I) Nature of the metal
  2. (II) Temperature
  3. (III) Concentration of electrolyte
  4. (IV) Enviornment
