Summary Introduction

Bryophytes are characterized by small, non-vascular plants, for example, liverworts, mosses, and hornworts. Characteristically, bryophytes are limited in size. They inhabit moist land, however, they able to thrive in dry environments. Bryophytes lack the true stems, roots, and leaves, like higher plants. The bryophytes comprised of about 20,000 plant species flourish in damp habitats, while some may thrive in desert environments.
