Concept explainers
To describe:
Ecological footprint and biocapacity and their interrelation.
Introduction:
Ecological footprint measure the ecological demand of an individual such as how much an individual can consume and how much the individual can generate the waste.
Biocapacity is the capacity of land and sea area to generate a constant supply of renewable
Accounting unit for both is global hectares; if the ecological footprint of a human population exceeds the biocapacity then the environment will be unsustainable.
The interrelation between is ecological deficits occurs when the ecological footprint of the population exceeds the biocapacity of the area available to that population.
