Summary Introduction

To write:

What sensory organs provide information to maintain equilibrium when eyes are open.

Introduction:

Eyes itself, inner part of the ear are the sensory organs which are responsible for maintaining equilibrium of the body. Ear comprises of three parts outer, middle and inner ear. Inner ear comprises of vestibular apparatus and cochlea which are mainly responsible for balancing function due to presence of semicircular canals and saccule and utricle in it.

Explanation of Solution

The inner ear comprises of a vestibular apparatus which comprises of the bony labyrinth part along with these semicircular canals or semicircular ducts and otolith organ. The inner ear has fluid filled labyrinth. This labyrinth has a bony part which is covered by a membranous labyrinth. This membranous labyrinth has perilymph surrounding it.

The base of these canals is swollen or comparatively enlarged known as Ampulla. This ampulla has ridges arising from it known as Cristae Ampullaris comprising of hair cells.

Otolith organ has saccule and utricle which are designed naturally to detect the gravity and body posture with the help of acceleration because of the movement occurring in the perilymph.

Saccule possesses numerous sensory cells which on any sort of change in the movement of the head gets charged or activated and sends the impulse of change to the brain in the form of nerve impulses. It alarms or works for linear posture of the head and tilts the head when required.

In the vestibule apparatus of the ear, otolith organ is present in the cochlea region of the inner ear. This otolith organ comprises of utricle and saccule. Utricle is also filled with fluid known as endolymph. Because of this fluid utricle is able to detect any sort of horizontal movement and thus helps in balancing of the body.

Conclusion

Thereby, eyesand inner earsare the structures which help in maintaining the body balance and posture when the eyes are open.

Summary Introduction

Introduction:

When the eyes are closed, only inner ear is responsible for maintenance of equilibrium of the body because of the sensory cells which are present in the saccule of it.

Explanation of Solution

Saccule possesses numerous numbers of sensory cells which on any sort of change in the movement of the head gets charged or activated and sends the impulse of change to the brain in the form of nerve impulses. It alarms or works for linear posture of the head and tilts the head when required.

Conclusion

Thereby, inner ears are the structures which help in maintaining the body balance and posture when the eyes are closed.
