Introduction: The cell membrane is a selective barrier that controls which substances leave and enter the cell. The movement of substances out and into the cells includes an active mechanism that uses cellular energy (endocytosis, active transport, and exocytosis) and the passive mechanism that does not require cellular energy (facilitated diffusion, filtration, osmosis, and diffusion).
