This enzyme helps in the breakdown of carbohydrates and the enzyme responsible for digestion of fats is the lingual lipase is also present in the buccal cavity, but protein digestion takes place only inside the stomach as the enzymes needed for the digestion of proteins are present and are activated in the stomach only.
