Summary Introduction

To determine: The method to increase the resistance of a crop plant species to particular types of herbivores.

Introduction: Elicitors are compounds produced by pathogens which are responsible for increasing virulence of the pathogens. Protein kinases bind to the pathogen-associated elicitors and help the plant in protecting itself from the pathogenic attack. This is known as the first line of defense. Receptors also bind to the elicitors present in the cytosol in order to detect the presence of elicitors and protect the plants from pathogenic attack. This is known as second line of defense.
