An individual nerve cell, also called a neuron includes structures specialized to perform different functions. The “input” end of nerve cells, called a dendrite, receives information from the environment or from other nerve cells. The cell body contains the nucleus and other typical organelles of eukaryotic cells. Electrical signals are sent down the axon, a long, thin strand that leads to synaptic terminal where the nerve cells stand out its signal to other cells.

Neurons are specialized cells that function for the transmission of impulses. They are specialized cells and have well defined structures that are responsible for the transmission of nerve signals.

The major parts of the neurons are the cell body, the axon, and the dendrites. Each of the part has a function for the generation and transmission of nerve impulses.

Cell body is also known as soma, it is spherical in shape that contain nucleus. The cell body connects to the dendrite, which bring information to the neuron.

Axon: It is a long, slender projection of a nerve or neuron, generally conducts electrical impulses through synaptic terminal known as action potential.

Dendrite: These are also known as Dendron’s. They help in the propagation of electrochemical stimulation from one neuron to other.
