To determine:
The changes that will happen in algae, garter snakes and bullfrogs. When predator of adult frog’s garter snake was eaten by bullfrogs and mountain yellow legged frogs are killed by a chytrid
Concept introduction:
In the given scenario, the predator of adult frog, the garter snake was eaten by bullfrogs and mountain yellow legged frogs are eaten by a chytrid fungus. This scenario clearly shows that all three; algae garter snake and bullfrog are related to each other by food chain.
Chytrid fungus is a pathogen that was first identified in 1999. This is the member of phylum Chytridiumycota also termed as Batrachochytrium dendrobitis. This fungus is very known to cause chytridiomycosis in amphibians such as mountain yellow-legged frogs Rana mucosa and Rana sierrea). During its lifecycle in host it contains a flagellated motile zoospore encysts keratinized amphibian’s tissue (skin of juveniles and adults, the mouthparts of tadpoles). It causes the development of zoosporangium which further forms zoospore by asexual reproduction.

- Sharks and bony fish are classified within the phytoplankton because they are often found in the well- surface areas of the ocean .arrow_forwardIf all of the saprophytic fungi in an ecosystem died, which of the following would be a likely short-term result? Group of answer choices Plants would not be able to absorb nutrients from the soil as effectively Dead plant material would be decomposed more quickly, releasing higher levels of CO2 Less carbon dioxide would be released into the atmosphere because dead plant material would not be decomposed Plants would be unable to absorb nitrogen as efficiently because their root symbiotic fungi would be unable to break gaseous nitrogen apart Plants would be unable to absorb nitrogen as efficiently because their root symbiotic fungi would be unable to break gaseous nitrogen apartarrow_forwardIf the algae that live in corals need CO2 as a carbon source for photosynthesis, why do scientists argue that global increases in CO2 are playing a role in the decline in coral reefs around the world?arrow_forward
- In Eutrophication, excess nutrients can cause algal blooms. However, what happens when the algae eventually die? Bacterial – Increase or decrease Oxygen – Increase or decreasearrow_forwardWhich of the following is not a way that protists contribute to the food web? a. They fix carbon into organic molecules. b. They occupy the apex producer niche. c. They enter symbiotic relationships with animals. d. They recycle nutrients back into the carbon and nitrogen cycles.arrow_forwardCoral reefs are unique, living structures. Even though they appear to be hard, rock-like structures, the soft-bodied coral animals that build the elaborate, hard, rock-like reef structures around themselves live inside. Corals are unique animals because they have photosynthetic algae that live inside their cells. This unique relationship is beneficial to the algae since it has a safe place to live inside the coral cells, and it is beneficial to the coral since the algae are producing food via photosynthesis. From the description above, what type of symbiosis is described, and at what ecological level does this relationship exist? The relationship is an example of parasitism, and it exists at the community level. The relationship is an example of mutualism, and it exists at the community level. - You have two identical bags and fill them with the same amount and type of leaves. You put the identical bags in two different areas of a river. After several weeks, one set of leaves has almost disappeared and the bag is full of organisms. The other set of leaves is still mostly whole and the bag has few organisms in it. Questions: What are some ways the two different areas of the river could be different? How might these differences explain why the leaf packs in one area have more organisms than the leaf packs in another area?arrow_forwardOne direct effect of the zebra mussel invasion was a decrease in the cloudiness of the water.
