To describe:
Five major types of receptors with examples.
Introduction:
Sensory receptors are the specialized cells designed to produce an electrical signal in response to an external stimulus from the environment. These receptors are often nerve cell consisting of dendrites, which are present in almost every part of the body, including skin, bladder and respiratory tracts. There are five major types of sensory receptors- thermoreceptors, photoreceptors, mechanoreceptor, pain receptors, chemoreceptors.
To describe:
How the nervous system codes for the type of stimulus and the intensity of the stimulus.
Introduction:
To create a response to a stimulus, the brain needs to perceive the nature and intensity of the stimulus. These can be determined by the size of receptor potential, produced by the sensory receptors.
To describe:
The term receptor potential and how it’s size helps to code for stimulus intensity.
Introduction:
Receptor potential is produced by the sensory receptors after sensing a stimulus. The size of receptor potential is dependent on the intensity of the stimulus.
