Explanation of Solution

Introduction

Spectrum is formed on emission or absorption of light energy by electron. It is a characteristic for particular element. Each element has its own spectra.

Absorption spectrum: The spectrum formed as a result of jump of an electron from lower to higher energy level when energy in form of photon is supplied to it. The absorbed wavelength vanishes from spectrum.

Emission spectrum: The spectrum formed as a result of emission of electron from excited energy level to its ground state. The energy is released in form of a photon. It shows emitted wavelength

Relation between them: Since, energy difference between two energy levels is same while going from upper to lower (emission) or from lower to upper (absorption), frequency of photon is same as energy depends on frequency. Hence color of light is same emitted or absorbed is same for two energy levels.

ΔE( absoption )=ΔE (emission)

Conclusion

Absorption spectrum is formed when electron jumps from lower to higher energy level and vice-versa for emission spectrum. The frequency of absorbed and emitted light is same for both spectrum.

Directions: Solve for the given problems. Show your complete solutions.Round off your answers into the proper number of significant figures.1. Copper has 8.5 x 1028 free electrons per cubic meter. A 75.0-cm length ofcopper wire with a diameter of 2.05 mm, carries 4.97 A of current.a. How much time does it take for an electron to travel the length of thewire?b. Repeat (a) for a wire with a diameter of 4.12 mm of the same length thatcarries the same current.c. How does changing the diameter of the wire affect the drift velocity ofthe electrons in the wire?
provide the correct formula and correct amount of significant figures for final answer  Part A:If there is an annealed copper wire with resistivity 0.172 nano ohm meters and a diameter of 2mm placed in an electric field of 16,000N/C, then how much current will go through the wire? Part BIf this wire (the same as in part A) has an electron density of 8.5x10^28 m^-3 then what is the drift velocity of the electrons in this wire? The charge of each electron is, as usual, 1.602x10^-19C.
Read the following items carefully. State your assumptions if any. Show your COMPLETE solution and BOX your final answers. Keep your answers and solutions in 4 decimal places. > Initially, 100 milligrams of a new radioactive substance Tobium, named after its discoverer Sir Tobs, was discovered and collected from one of the moons of Jupiter. After 6 hours from collection, the mass decreased by 4%, If the rate of decay IS proportional to the amount of the substance present at time t, find the amount of Tobium remaining after 48 hours.
