Concept introduction:
The general molecular formula
Cis-trans terminology is used for two non-similar groups attached alkenes and cycloalkanes.
If the two identical groups are attached on each side of double bond in same side, then it is cis alkenes.
If the two identical groups are attached on each side of double bond in opposite manner, then it is trans alkenes.
If the substituents attached on same sides of cycloalkane, then the compound is cis isomer.
If the substituents attached on opposite sides of cycloalkane, then the compound is trans isomer.

- C5H8Cl2 can you name and draw all isomers , make sure each has a 5 membered cyclic ring . And use E,Z when approparrow_forwardDraw and name a constitutional isomer of C9H18 that has cis/trans isomers and is named a “3-hexene”. (Label your structure with the proper E/Z nomenclature).arrow_forwardCompounds A and B are isomers of the molecular formula C9H19Br. Both yield the same alkene C in an elimination reaction. Hydrogenation of C yields the product 2,3,3,4 tetramethyl pentane. What are the structures of A, B, and C?arrow_forward
- Assign the following alkene molecules as being cis or trans, E or Z isomers.arrow_forwarda) When (Z)-3-methylhex-3-ene undergoes hydroboration–oxidation, two isomeric products are formed. Give their structures, and label each asymmetric carbon atom as (R) or (S). What is the relationship between these isomers?arrow_forwardDraw the skeletal (bond-line) structures of all isomers of C4H8O (including configurational isomers) that contain an alkene and an ether. There should be 5 structures.arrow_forward
- Read Appendix B on naming branched alkyl substituents, and draw all possible alkyl groups having the formula C5H11–. Give the IUPAC names for the eight compounds of molecular formula C10H20 that contain a cyclopentane ring with each of these alkyl groups as a substituent.arrow_forwardDraw structural formulas for the cis and trans isomers of hydrindane. Show each ring in its most stable conformation. Which of these isomers is more stable?arrow_forwardWhat alkane, with molecular formula C5H12, forms only one monochlorinated product when it is heated with Cl2?arrow_forward
- a. What hydrocarbon with molecular formula C4H10 forms only two monochlorinated products? Both products are achiral. b. What hydrocarbon with the same molecular formula as in part a forms three monochlorinated products? One is achiral and two are chiral.arrow_forwardDraw the structures of all monobromo derivatives of 2-methylpentane, C6H13Br, which have the bromine on a primary carbon.arrow_forwarda. Draw the structures and give the common and systematic names for alkynes with molecular formula C7H12. Ignore stereosiomers. (Hint: There are 14.) b. How many would there be if stereoisomers are included?arrow_forward
