Concept explainers
The Interplanetary Federation of Fraternia consists of six planets: Alpha Kappa, Beta Theta, Chi Omega, Delta Gamma, Epsilon Tau, and Phi Sigma (A, B, C, D, E, and F for short). The federation is governed by the Inter-Fraternia Congress, consisting of 200 seats apportioned among the planets according to their populations.

- A school has 650 students. Each student studies one of Analytical Chemistry or Health Care or Biochemistry or Biostatistics and Epidemiology. The table shows the number of students who study each of these courses. An inspector wants to look at the work of a stratified sample of 70 of these students. Find the number of students studying each of these courses that should be in the sample. He goes to those five pages in the 72-page directory and chooses the ten students pictured on each of those five pages. Will this sampling strategy result in a random sample from the population under consideration?arrow_forwardManilias is a country with population spread out in seven regions. The regions Apolia, Boelia, Cuilia, Dealia, Euolia, Fiolia and Giolia, have 35%, 20%, 15%, 10%, 10%, 8% and 2% of the country population, respectively. In an attempt to study if the proportion of graduates among the working population is homogeneous across different regions in the country, a total of 200 working adults were sampled from seven regions. The number of adults sampled from each region is according to the relative population proportion in that region. The number of graduates in samples from Apolia, Boelia, Cuilia, Dealia, Euolia, Fiolia and Giolia are 18, 14, 11, 5, 8, a and b. a and b are unknown numbers as the results from the sampling were misplaced.
