To review:
The division of autonomic nervous system predominates in two different situations: (a) An individual is hiking on a trail and suddenly a bear appears in your path and (b) It is a hot and sunny day, finding a tree you sit under.
Introduction:
The ANS (autonomic nervous system) is the part of the human’s nervous system that play a critical role in the control of the involuntary actions of the body. Nerves, smooth muscles, cardiac muscles, endocrine glands, and some exocrine glands constitute the autonomic nervous system. It further, has two divisions, namely, parasympathetic and sympathetic, which have opposite actions controlling the involuntary actions of the body in opposite situation.

Question 6 options: A) Subthalamic nucleus inhibits internal segment of the globus pallidus which disinhibits substantia nigra B) Substantia nigra inhibits striatum which disinhibits the subthalamic nucleus C) Striatum inhibits internal segment of the globus pallidus which disinhibits thalamus D) Striatum inhibits external segment of the globus pallidus which disinhibits thalamusarrow_forwardDescribe the sympathetic pathways to the (a) submandibular salivary gland, (b) bladder, (c) sweat glands in the skin, (d) adrenal medulla, (e) heart, (f) stomach.arrow_forwardWhat is the most superior of the chain ganglia?arrow_forward
- During a robbery at his convenience store, Dustin was shot in the right cerebral hemisphere. He survived, although some specific functions were impaired. Would Dustin have been more likely or less likely to have survived if he had been shot in the medulla oblongata? Why?arrow_forwardYou are watching the Detroit Lions lose yet again (If you are not familiar, this is an American football team that loses a lot--you know it's true even if you are a fan.) A player visually scans the field, throws the ball and yells for his teammate to catch the pass. Describe any three CNS structures that the player would use in this scenario, and explain what they would be used for. The list does not have to be complete but does need to be accurate.arrow_forwardWhich part of the autonomic nervous system promotesdigestion and absorption? How does this occur?arrow_forward
