Microorganisms are single-celled or unicellular organisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and archaea. They can grow and live in various environments like soil, ocean, inside rocks and animals. Some microorganisms are involved in an endosymbiotic relationship and others may cause serious health issues in humans and animals. Bacteria and viruses contain DNA or RNA as a genetic material and also they contain other genetic elements such as plasmids or transposable elements.
