To explain: The reason of the bird having scales like those found on snakes and lizards.
Introduction:
Archaeopteryx is a fossil found which serves as a connecting link between birds and reptiles. It has features of both the reptiles and that of the birds.
Explanation of Solution

As shown in Fig 1: “Phylogenetic relationship between birds, snakes and lizards”, the birds as well as the snakes and lizards shares common ancestors. Due to presence of the common ancestry with the reptiles, the birds have scales on its feet.
Scales are the thick, dry and keratinized in nature. Snakes and lizards use their scales to provide contact with substrates such as trees and also create the movement. The feathers in the birds are the modified scales.
Birds and snakes share a common ancestor which results in the presence of the scales in the bird’s feet that are the basic characters of snakes and lizard.
