The water is available for the plants in pores of the soil. The plants absorb the water from the roots and the conducting tissues (xylem) transport the water to the requisite sites of the plant.

Introduction:
The food is transported bidirectionally through the phloem tissues but the water and dissolved minerals directed in one direction only. The phloem transported synthesized food where the food is needed, such as stored food is transported from roots to leaves whenever required or leaves synthesize food and transports to roots for storage.
