Chapter 44.5, Problem 1TC
Summary Introduction

To determine:

Whether annual rings will be present in trees that have a warm and wet climate throughout the year.

Introduction:

Annual rings are formed by actively dividing vascular cambium. Vascular cambium divides in both the directions. Multiplication towards inward direction gives rise to new xylem which replaces the old xylem and multiplication towards outward direction gives rise to the phloem.

Phloem is a weak tissue and gets crushed buy newly synthesized xylem and phloem tissue. On the other hand, xylem is a strong tissue and stays intact even after the formation of new xylem in the form of the dark ring also known as annual rings.
