Find the value of x from the equation 2 ( x − 1 ) ( x − 3 ) − 5 ( x − 3 ) ( x + 3 ) = 0 by multiplying ( x − 1 ) ( x − 3 ) ( x + 3 ) on both sides. 2 ( x − 1 ) ( x − 3 ) − 5 ( x − 3 ) ( x + 3 ) = 0 ( x − 1 ) ( x − 3 ) ( x + 3 ) ⋅ ( 2 ( x − 1 ) ( x − 3 ) − 5 ( x − 3 ) ( x + 3 ) ) = 0 ⋅ ( x − 1 ) ( x − 3 ) ( x + 3 ) 2 ( x + 3 ) − 5 ( x − 1 ) = 0 2 x + 6 − 5 x + 5 = 0 On further simplification, − 3 x + 11 = 0 − 3 x = − 11 x = 11 3 Thus, the critical values of the rational equation are − 3 , 1 , 3 , and 11 3 .
