The three types of natural radioactivity and the nature of the particle produced in each.
Answer to Problem 1PLA
The three types of natural radioactivity are alpha, beta and gamma. The nature of the particle produced in alpha
Explanation of Solution
There are three types of natural radioactivity depending on the nature of the particle released from the radioactive nucleus. They are alpha, beta and gamma.
Alpha radiation is the emission of an alpha particle that is a doubly-ionized helium atom,
Beta radiation is the emission of an electron or a positron.
Gamma radiation is the emission of high energy photons.
Conclusion:
Thus, the three types of natural radioactivity are alpha, beta and gamma. The nature of the particle produced in alpha radiation is helium atom, in beta radiation is either an electron or a positron and in gamma rays are high energy photons.
