Section 4.1
Allison, Branden, Colin, Donny, Erica, Jim, Kami, Lance, Marshall, and Nicole are competing on a whitewater rafting trip in the Amazing Race and will be traveling in several canoes. In considering a variety of factors such as weight, skill level, etc., the trip leaders have decided that certain people should not be in the same canoe as certain other people. The table below shows who should not travel together. We will abbreviate using the first letter of each name and will not list duplicate information; for example, if A cannot travel with B, we will not also list that B cannot travel with A. How many canoes are needed? Develop a plan as to who can travel together.
Person | A | B | C | D | E | K | L | M |
Cannot Travel With | B, J, D | D, J | K, L, E | J | K, L | D, L | M, N | N |
