Summary Introduction

Bacterial and archaeal cells are similar in appearance. However, they vary at molecular levels. These cells are differing from eukaryotic cells, since eukaryotic cells composed of a nucleus and several membrane structures. Despite, bacterial, archeal, and eukaryotic cells differ structurally in several ways they are relatively similar biochemically.

Explanation of Solution

The membrane of both bacteria and archaea maintains the structure of the organism. The membrane structure also aids to keep the cells biological processes separated from the surrounding environment. Both bacteria and archaea possess a transport system to intake nutrients and release metabolic waste.

The membranes of the eukaryotic organism are differ from bacterial as well as archeal membranes. Because, eukaryotic membranes are capable of endocytosis. The eukaryotic organism can intake nutrients through a mechanism called pinocytosis, intake of extracellular fluid, or phagocytosis. Moreover, the membranes of eukaryotic organelles also capable of intaking various materials, like proteins while moving through the cell by means of vesicular transport. This can be achieved by fusion of the vesicle membrane with the membrane of the organelle.

Describe the structure of the cell membrane.   Be sure to identify the following terms. Plasma membrane, phospholipid bilayer, integral membrane proteins, peripheral membrane proteins, glycoproteins, hydrophobic/hydrophilic.
True or False Cell walls are present in the cells of archaea, bacteria, algae, fungi, and plants only. Photosynthetic unicellular prokaryotes such as Oscillatoria exhibit a green color when viewed under a microscope because of the presence of numerous chloroplasts. The nuclear membrane is a double-membrane structure that constitutes the outermost portion of the nucleus and is continuous with the Endoplasmic Reticulum.
