Explanation of Solution
Binding ability of the messenger and receptor is determined by their specificity in structures. The receptor is activated by the binding of the messenger to it. In addition, any molecule that has a similar structure to the messenger can also bind with the receptor. If these molecules are present, they act as a competing molecule with the messenger. This results in the reduction in the function of the messenger–receptor system. The messenger–receptor interaction has its own specificity that allows each messenger to show a discrete action. This serves as a basis for many drugs that are used to block the harmful effects of an excess of naturally occurring messengers.
