Chapter 5, Problem 1RC
Summary Introduction

Introduction:

The bone matrix is composed of both organic and inorganic components. A major organic component of the bone is collagen and a major inorganic component is a hydroxyapatite. The inorganic component, hydroxyapatite, is strong as concrete. It has high mechanical strength under compression and less mechanical strength under tension. Hydroxyapatite makes the bones highly fragile under tension.
