To determine: The goals associated with the history of physical activity.
Introduction: There are organizations that provide information on the history of physical activity. Such organizations are American Historical Association (AHA), British Society of Sports History (BSSH), and others.
Explanation of Solution
The two main goals of the physical activity history are as follows:
- To identify and describe the critical patterns of stability, and change in physical activity.
- To analyze such patterns through research, service, and teaching.
In terms of the first goal, the historian provides vast factual details to give readers a description of what it was like to be involved in particular physical activity and the values that people had toward the physical activity. The second goal analyzes the patterns of change and the stability that people found in particular societies or cultures during specific times. Most historians go beyond description to demonstrate why certain things happened. To do so, historians look for groups, events, individuals, and ideas that helped in maintaining stability in the past.
