The name of each polyatomic ion is to be determined.
Concept introduction:
Polyatomic ions are composed of a group of atoms with an overall charge.
In order to name the ionic compounds that contains a polyatomic ion, use the name of the polyatomic ion.
Oxyanions are anions that are composed of oxygen.
If two ions in series are present, ion with more oxygen atoms ends with –ate and ion with fewer oxygen atoms ends with –ite.
If there are more than two ions in the series are present, use the prefixes hypo- which means ‘less than’ and per means ‘more than’.
