It is totally based on the available sources like food and nutrition so that an organism occupies a particular place in the food chain which is called the Trophic level. The first trophic level is associated with the producers, the second trophic level is for herbivores (primary consumers), and carnivores belong to the third trophic level (secondary consumers).
