Chapter 5.5, Problem 3CYP
Summary Introduction
To compare:
The oxygen content present in the pulmonary artery and pulmonary vein.
Introduction:
The human blood circulation follows the two pathways: pulmonary and systematic circulation. The pulmonary circulation involves the transport and circulation of the blood between the heart and the lungs. The systematic circulation involves the collection of impure blood from all the body parts and transporting it to the heart. The heart pumps the purified blood back to all the parts of the body.

Explain how partial gas pressures are calculated, and their significance in measurements of arterial blood gases.
Using a flow diagram (arrows), describe the pathway of the pulmonary circulation. Indicate the relative amounts of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the vessels involved.
List the variables that increase the release of oxygen (by decreasing the affinity of oxygen to hemoglobin) as blood passes through systemic capillaries.
