Chapter 58, Problem 2A
Summary Introduction
Introduction:
The oligotrophic lake is a lake having low primary productivity because of low organic nutrients. Due to low nutrient, the growth of algae or other organism is low. The oligotrophic lake contains very clear and flowing water (lotic water ecosystem). The dissolved oxygen content in oligotrophic lake is high from surface to bottom.
The eutrophic lake has a higher number of productivity because the nutrient content in eutrophic lake is high. This support the growth of algae and other aquatic plant. The growth of algae start consuming oxygen, which result in oxygen depletion in eutrophic lake.
