Each biome represents characteristical appearance and distribution over wide area which is defined by particular climatic conditions. There are eight biomes present on Earth: tropical rainforest, savanna, desert, temperate grassland, temperate decidious forest, temperate evergreen forest, taiga and tundra. Explanation: Desserts are the dry places with unpredictable and sparse rain. The unpredictability of the rain means that the animals and plants of this biome cannot depend on the rain. Many of the largest deserts occur at latitudes near 30 ° S and 30 ° N due to global air circulation patterns. The circulation of air is up from the equators and away at high altitudes in both northern and southern hemispheres which tends to circulate back down to Earth surface at about 30 ° of latitude. During this movement, the water vapor content of the air changes radically due to change in the air temperature. The dramatic cooling of the air decreases its ability to hold water vapors. Consequently, much of these vapors condense in the air that is rising from the equators for the formation of clouds and rain. This rain falls in the latitudes that are present near the equators. By the time “air starts to descend back to the surface of the Earth at latitude 30 ° , it is cool and thus lost majority of the moisture”. Although the descending of air rewarms it but it does not results in the gain of moisture. Thus, many of the greatest desserts occur at approximately 30 ° latitude because of steady descend of the dry air.
