Concept explainers
A.
To explain: Telomeres and telomerases are required for replication of eukaryotic chromosomes and not for replication of circular bacterial chromosome with the help of diagram.
Introduction: Both eukaryotes and prokaryotes have their DNA packed in chromosomes. Prokaryotic chromosomes are circular, and eukaryotic chromosomes are tightly packed and are linear. Eukaryotes have end-replication problem as their ends have telomeres and thus the DNA at ends of chromosomes are not fully copied at each round of replication. The single-stranded overhangs are produced from protective loops.
B.
To explain: Whether telomeres and telomerases would still be required to complete replication of eukaryotic chromosomes if primase laid down the RNA primer at the 3ʹ end of the lagging strand template.
