Summary Introduction

To analyze:

How the analysis of genetic mutation is different depending on whether it is dominant or recessive.

Introduction:

A type of mutation which is inherited in a dominant fashion that is it is expressed even if present on a single allele is known as a dominant mutation. If a mutation is expressed only under homozygous conditions it is known as recessive mutation.

Expert Solution & Answer

Explanation of Solution

A recessive phenotype has to be present on both the alleles to be expressed and the chance of a homozygous recessive organism is 0.25, which further reduces depending upon the rate of mutation. The chances of an organism to have a dominant allele is 0.75 and the mutation has to be in any one allele, which increases its probability to be inherited. The phenotype in case of recessive mutation might not express if a single allele is mutated, however, a dominant mutation expressed even in such cases.

Conclusion

A dominant mutation can is inherited even if a single allele is mutated, however, both the alleles have to carry the recessive mutation for the phenotype to be present.
