Chapter 6, Problem 24P
Tomodel the velocity distribution in the curved inlet section of a water channel, the radius of curvature of the streamlines is expressed as R = LR0/2y. As an approximation, assume the water speed along each streamline is V = 10 m/s. Find an expression for and plot the pressure distribution from y = 0 to the tunnel wall at y = L/2, if the centerline gage pressure is 50 kPa, L = 75 mm, and R0 = 0.2 m. Find the value of V for which the wall static pressure becomes 35 kPa.

6.36 This two-dimensional water (at 50°F) jet is deflected by the two-dimensional vane, which is moving to the right with a speed of 60 ft/s. The initial jet is 0.30 ft thick (vertical dimension), and its speed is 100 ft/s. What power per foot of the jet (normal to the page) is transmitted to the vane? See §6.5 for useful knowledge about moving CVs.
A pipe inclined at 45° to the horizontal (Fig. 2) converges over a length l of 2 m from a diameterd1 of 200 mm to a diameter d2 of 100 mm at the upper end. Oil of relative density 0.9 flowsthrough the pipe at a mean velocity ?̅1 at the lower end of 2 m/s. Find the pressure differenceacross the 2 m length ignoring any loss of energy, and the difference in level that would beshown on a mercury manometer connected across this length. The relative density of mercury is 13.6 and the leads to the manometer arefilled with the oil.
