Chapter 6, Problem 34CT
Summary Introduction

To analyze:

Mr. Ahmadi was forced to jump to escape the speeding car after that a snapping sound was heard, which was followed by an immediate pain in the lower right calf region. Between his heel and the swollen calf, a gap was observed as well as he was unable to plantar flex the injured foot.

The main reason behind the injury of Mr. Ahmadi.

Introduction:

The deep seated and the superficial muscle groups form the posterior leg compartment. A common tendon, that is, Achilles tendon, is shared by the superficial muscles. The Achilles tendons or calcaneal tendon is the strongest tendon of the body. This tendon helps the muscles of the ankle to bind to its calcaneal bone.

The plantar flex of the foot is caused by the deep and the superficial muscle groups. The superficial muscles comprise the soleus, gastrocnemius, and the calf muscles. In the given situation the person has injured his Achilles tendon and the calf muscle, which is swollen after the incident. The inability to perform the plantar flexor of the foot suggests that the gastrocnemius muscle of the calf and the Achilles tendon are injured.

How can the deltoid extend and flex the arm?
Savannah started a 200-meter dash and fell to the ground in pain.Examination of her right leg revealed the following symptoms: inability to plantar flex the foot against resistance, normal ability to evertthe foot, abnormal dorsiflexion of the foot, and abnormal bulging ofthe calf muscles. Explain the nature of her injury
Why do you suppose there are more and larger muscles involved in plantar flexion of the foot than dorsiflexion?
