Concept introduction:
Polyprotic acid releases hydrogen ions one at a time rather than giving their all hydrogen ions at once. As a result, the intermediate anions generated are stable species having the negative ions in many ionic compounds. When dissolved in water, the acid anion possessing hydrogen atoms releases a hydrogen ion like an acid.
