Concept introduction:
Cost Volume Profit (CVP) Analysis:
The Cost Volume Profit analysis is the analysis of the relation between cost, volume, and profit of a product. It analyzes the cost and profits at the different level of production, in order to determine the breakeven point and required the level of sales to earn the desired profit.
Contribution margin means the margin that is left with the company after recovering variable cost out of revenue earned by selling smart phones. The formula for contribution margin is as follows:
Contribution margin = Sales - Variable cost.
Similarly contribution margin ratio = Contribution/sales
Breakeven Point:
The Breakeven point is the level of sales at which the net profit is nil. It can be explained as a situation where the business is generating a sale that is equal to the expenses incurred and hence no
To calculate:

If the government wants to get the efficient quantity with a per/unit tax, how much should the tax be? 3 (already answer) Now imagine that they use tradable allowances. What is the demand? (b) Use Goal Seek to calculate the price that results in breakeven. If required, round your answer to two decimal places. c) Use a data table that varies price from 350 to 3400 in increments of 325 to find the price that maximizes profit.arrow_forward
- Knight Shades Inc. is considering adding new line of sunglasses to their designer series. The glasses will sell for $1,100 per pair and have a variable cost of $400 per unit. The company has spent $101,000 for a marketing study that estimates the company will sell 74,000 sunglasses per year for seven years. The fixed costs each year to produce the sunglasses will be $5,040,000. The company has also spent $706,000 on research and development for the new glasses. The new plant and equipment will cost $12,000,000 at start-up and will be depreciated on a straight-line basis to zero over the seven years. At the end of the seven years the plant and equipment will be worthless. The new sunglasses will also require an increase in net working capital of $664,000 that will be returned at the end of the project. The tax rate is 40 percent, and the cost of capital is 9 percent. The marketing study also estimates that introducing the new sunglasses will reduce sales of the company's high-priced…arrow_forwardWhich of the following would decrease unit contribution margin the most? - Imagine that you could increase the price for a product that has a profit margin of 8% on its price. If you could increase the price by 1% AND simultaneously keep the sales volume (in unit terms) at the same level as before the price increase, calculate the impact of this price increase on the profit margin. (For this question, assume there are no fixed costs. You just need to calculate the PERCENTAGE CHANGE in profit margin)arrow_forwardWhat is the effect in contribution margin ratio if both selling price andvariable costs are increased by 10% and the fixed costs remain the same?1.
