Chapter 6, Problem 4TYU
Summary Introduction

Introduction: Cyanide is a chemical compound which is highly toxic in nature. It binds with cytochrome c (cyt c) oxidase, an enzyme of an electron transport chain (ETC). ETC is found in mitochondrial inner membrane. Cyanide attaches with the iron of cytochrome c oxidase and does not allow cyt c to pass electrons to oxygen molecules. This stops the energy (ATP) production which is necessary to sustain life.
