Before takeoff on an airplane, an inquisitive student on the plane dangles an iPod by its earphone wire. It hangs straight down as the plane is at rest waiting to take off. The plane then gains speed rapidly as it moves down the runway, (i) Relative to the student’s hand, does the iPod (a) shift toward the front of the plane. (b) continue to hang straight down, or (c) shift toward the back of the plane? (ii) The speed of the plane increases at a constant rate over a time interval of several seconds. During this interval, does the angle the earphone wire makes with the vertical (a) increase, (b) slay constant, or (c) decrease?

- A 1.5-lb slider is propelled upward at A along the fixed curved bar which lies in a vertical plane. If the slider is observed to have a speed of 10.6 ft/sec as it passes position B, determine (a) the magnitude N of the force exerted by the fixed rod on the slider and (b) the rate v at which the speed of the slider is changing (positive if speeding up, negative if slowing down). A string tied to the ring passes over a smooth fixed pulley P carrying a mass m2 at the other end (hanging vertically down). Initially, the ring is held at rest so that the segment of the string between the ring and the pulley makes an angle of θ= 300 with the horizontal. lf the ring is released, and if m2=3m1, then the ratio of instantaneous acceleration a of the mass m2 with the acceleration due to gravityg (i.e.,value of a/g) is:arrow_forwardThe pelvis P is connected to the femur F at A using three different muscles, which exert the forces shown on the femur.
