Chapter 6, Problem 72P
Data Set NIFED.DAT (at www.cengagebrain.com) was described earlier. We wish to look at the effect of each treatment separately on heart rate and systolic blood pressure (SBP).
Answer Problem 6.70 for level 3 to baseline.
Provide separate point estimates and 95% CIs for the changes in heart rate and SBP (level 1 to baseline) for the subjects randomized to nifedipine and propranolol, respectively. Also provide box plots of the change scores in the two treatment groups.

Suppose we want to know the impact of air quality on crime. To perform this study, we collect air quality measurements across the U.S., as well as daily crime statistics for 300 metropolitan areas. In this study: (1) What is the explanatory variable?
Please see below. I need to check my answer on this. My answer is the 866 births.
Question 8: Researchers investigating the impact of prenatal care on newborn health collected data from 866 births during 1997-1999. They kept track of the mother's age, the number of weeks the pregnancy lasted, the type of birth (cesarean, induced, natural), the level of prenatal care the mother had (none, minimal, adequate), the weight and sex of the infant, and whether the infant exhibited health problems (none, minor, major).
Identify the sample.
The newborn health of the 866 infants
The 866 births
The 866 mothers
The health problems in the newborn health of the 866 infants.
Carter et al investigated the effect of age at onset of bipolar disorder on the course of the illness. One of the variables studied was the subjects' family history. The table below shows the frequency of a family history of mood disorders in the two groups of interest: early age at onset (18years or younger) and later age at onset (later than 18 years old). Can we conclude on the basis of these data that subjects 18 or younger differ from subjects older than 18 with respect to family histories ofmood disorders? To determine if there is, a researcher asked a random sample of mothers what they had fed their infant and they also recorded whether or not the child was autistic. Almost all brands of formula sold in the U.S. are now fortified with DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and ARA (arachidonic acid). The data are in the table below. Boston.com reports that in the first 10 months of 2012 on-time arrival rates at U.S. airports were the highest they have been since 2003. During this period 82% of flights landed within 15 minutes of their scheduled time. Are there differences among the major airlines? The data in Sheet 35 show the number of on-time arrivals for samples of flight taken from seven major U.S. airlines in 2012.
